Vivianne Whalen was raised in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Our Lady of the Elms High School. She went on to earn her bachelor of science degree from the Ohio State University. She obtained her law degree from the University of Akron. She is licensed to practice law in Ohio and California, as well as the Federal District Court and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Attorney Whalen started her legal career as a criminal prosecutor for the City of Canton. She then went on to the Stark County Prosecutor's Office where she prosecuted felony-criminal cases. She transitioned to the Civil Division of the Stark County Prosecutor's Office as a litigator. Ms. Whalen began her private practice after her initial time with the Stark County Prosecutor's Office. She concentrated on personal injury litigation while working and gaining experience with Attorneys John Coury (Ret.) and Michael Demchak. She went on to co-found Whalen Duffrin LLC.
Attorney Whalen primarily works out of the Canton Office and concentrates on cases involving auto and truck accidents, premises liability, and other personal injuries. Many of her cases are referrals from other attorneys who have confidence in her skills. She has had significant settlements and judgments. She is a past president of the Stark County Association for Justice.
Attorney Whalen also has earned a reputation in the practice of labor and employment law. Ms. Whalen's expeirence includes serving as in-house counsel for large public employers. Her experience includes litigating discrimination and non-compete cases, contract negotiations, collective bargaining, grievances, and labor arbitration. She has practiced before the State Employment Relations Board, the State Personnel Board of Review, the National Labor Relations Board, the Merit System Protection Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. Attorney Whalen has litigated many employment cases in State and Federal Courts on behalf of both employers and employees. She has served on the City of Green's Civil Service Commission (2010-2017) and has taught legal education courses on labor and employment.
